Many frightening, inspiring and beautiful creatures range the lands surrounding the civilized regions of the world. Stranger beasts still are found in the despoiled regions called the Barrens.

Within the cities are to be found numerous other inimical species, including Ratmen, Beetlemen and Duplicators.

Beneath the daylit world is another land where it is forever dark, and here are to be found truly horrible opponents. Known as the underrealm, the farther one travels away from the surface, the more hazardous the journey...but the greater the potential rewards.

Some beasts may be openly servants of some instinctual good, some may be friends in disguise, some may become friends through a shared cause or hardship. Most are content to live and let live. Some may be inimical to all life, to automatically call upon those who encounter them to slay in the cause of all life by their very existence.

The creatures attack type indicates the different ways a monster may attack a PC, and sometimes other information. For example, a Weapon attack type means that the monster will probably drop its weapon if killed, leaving something behind for the PC to pick up. A poison attack means that it is likely the character will suffer additional damage in further rounds from the attack.

About Creature HP
Creatures have levels and dice types. While at first, a level ten creature with 12 four-sided dice for HP doesn't seem very tough, remember that 12d4 means the critter has a minimum of 12 HP, so even if it's not "ultimately tough" with a maximum of 48 HP, there's little chance a lucky strike is going to waste it early. This compensates for creatures of great size where no one dagger prick, no matter how well-placed, is going to kill such a beast.
