Found along the riverbanks of the upper Ryuzhin, Carnivorous Riverbeetles are a great danger. They have been particularly thick of late in the portion of the river which borders the province of Tereak. They lurk just underwater among the reeds, patiently awaiting their prey, as they are carry a bubble of air with them underwater trapped among special hairs on their hind legs, and respirate through their knee joints like many insects.

Huge, ranging from three feet in length to over nine feet in the largest recorded specimen, the riverbeetle's carapace is extremely thick and as tough as the finest armors. Pincers in the jaws deal crushing damage, and usually kill on the first blow any prey unlucky enough to be caught between them.

They are afraid of fire, usually choosing to flee if faced with it.
