A cousin to the now-extinct White Gryphon of the Elvan Age, the Dark Gryphon line has survived through the centuries as a fine thoroughbred prized by the Dark Elvan nobility. Trained to be as malicious as their cruel masters, Dark Gryphons take delight in the fright and helplessness of their prey, terrorizing their victims with their enormous, raking talons and razor beaks.

Dark Gryphons serve as the steeds of the Dark Elvani on their rare overland ventures, when they wish to travel swiftly afar and return from their venture before the sun rises to banish them from the surface world once more for the day.

A Dark Gryphon will serve only one master, and while it will tolerate familiar stablehands, if angered it will tear even these apart. Only its master will be spared its anger, and even then, extreme shock has caused a Dark Gryphon to turn on the one who tamed it.
