For millennia, the Dragons ruled over all the lands of that place which would one day become the Kingdom of Antra. Before the Elvs, before Men, before Dwarvs and Trols, Dragons were masters of all. It was the Dragons who brought the the Young Races to the True World, to serve them, or as playthings. The Reign of Dragons ended some three thousand years ago, and now the great beasts known to exist number but few. Those who remain lair in distant places, largely high and rocky mountains and other isolated habitat found at the edges of the world. Dragons are highly territorial creatures, and will stake out an area in which to hunt and make their laire, and this region they consider as "theirs." Woe betide any who choose to ignore or challenge these claims! There are rumors of at least one Dragon lairing in the Garnet Waste, east of the Crevasses, and another in the Mist Swamps to the south. Some Dragons are known by name; among the most notable being called Sunlofter, Icebreath, and Enorver. Some of these are even social, accepting "interesting" visitors who can survive the many challenges of the wilderness in which they make their homes, and speaking conversationally. Others are absolute foes of incursion on their turf. Dragon-foes and Dragon-friends alike had best carefully tread between the talons of the mighty, and heed their whims. The Dragons of Antra come in many colors, but not so many as the Majzi of Antra, so many tend to discount the rumors of any relation. Colors of the Dragons are white, red, yellow, gray, violet, orange, and black. Most have a combination of smoky gray and a particular one of these colors, tipping from dark at the tip of the scale to brilliant near the base. Dragons known to date vary from ten to forty-five feet in length, with a wingspread of commensurate span. Among the Elvani, there are rumors of much larger drakonzi, described in terms of what can really only be mythological valuations, up to four hundred cubits in some tales! The hide of a Dragon is of immense value, as majzi crave the skin to bind their spellbooks in, for the great protection it offers against damage. Alkemetzi will pay high prices in fresh coin for teeth, horns and talons, as well. The thought processes of Drakonzi are opaque to many humans. Dragons spend their lives pursuing what interests them, and they do pursue their interests tenaciously over the course of their extremely long lives.
