The heritage of the Gray Elv is in question. Even they do not know the origin of their line, only that they are a scattered people from far ages gone, and that they do not know their cousin Elvs greatly. They do not feature prominently in any history.
Gray Elvani have the ability to shape change themselves several times a day into a cloud of fog-like vapor. The Elv's clothing and equipment carried change with the Elv. Vertical movement becomes possible in cloud form, although it is not very fast and can be adversely affected by steady breezes or strong gusts of wind. This ability is greatly hampered in desert environments, and works most readily and with least effort in swampy, humid regions. To attempt to use their fogshift ability in an arid environment leaves the Elv weak and gasping in short order.
The Gray Elv is unaffected by normal weapons during this duration, but magikal weapons and spells will have normal effect, and spells based on fire will do serious damage. The Elv may revert to normal form at any time.
The life of a Gray Elv spans only about 60 years. This is far, far fewer years in span than Leaf or Tree Elvs. Why the Gray Elvan lifespan is so short is another mystery yet unsolved, but they are greatly desperate for life-extending majik, and this is what is most precious to them overall. Their own wizards are but poorly skilled, and they will pay dearly for alkhemikal texts and teachings. Even so, thusly a few of them may be found in Eyrmidia even, for though its scarlet sands are drying and unpleasant to the swamp-dwelling Elvani, so it is their alkhemetzi were open to the teaching of their secrets to the reticent, secretive Elvs in exchange for a few of the rare and precious treasures of the Mist Swamps.
