The origin of the gylantu is disputed by scholars. They were unknown until forty years ago, when they suddenly came to the attention of thieves and scholars alike. Because they are found only in the City of Antra, to the best of all knowledge, they are held by one school to be majikal constructs. Other thinkers hold to the belief that they are a spontaneous kind of life arising from the majik which permeates the City everywhere.

Yet another school considers the Gylantu merely another form of Temple Demon.
